School Development Planning (SDP Project)
The School Development Plan is a new concept in China, but it has been developing for nearly 20 years in the UK. As an advanced and highly efficient management tool, SDP has been established in more and more UK schools. Cambridge Education introduced SDP to China through some international projects seven years ago and achieved great success. Since 2005 we have cooperated with Beijing Haidian Education Committee and Beijing Institute of Teaching and Research. We chose 12 schools (six primary schools and six middle schools) in Haidian District to establish a three year Project, which has had good feedback and evaluation from the government, schools and teachers. On the basis of this international and domestic experience, we designed a SDP project corresponding to the needs for performance development and improvement in Chinese primary and secondary schools.

According to the different needs of schools and governments, we provide two kinds of service, one is a three-year SDP project, and the other is short-period training.
The short-period training includes,

All the courses are designed in accordance with the SDP project. The modules can be tailored and developed around your needs. |
School development is a long process and it takes three years from the design to full implementation.Therefore, we designed the three year SDP project. The features of this long-term project are as follows :

Different levels needs assessment: we carry out a detailed needs assessment for each project school before carrying out the project. Our assessment includes the headteachers, teachers and students, as well as the parents, communities and governments. Through this effective communication, the project focuses on the needs for schools’ development, as well as helping schools develop multi-levels of communication and an understanding of the development environment.

Providing all-round professional service in the dynamic process: SDP is a dynamic development process; every step from needs assessment, to full implementation will bring changes to schools and headteachers. During the process, our consultants follow the track of each project schools’ development and provide a specific and professional service through training, workshop and in-school coaching as required.

Achieving self-development for school: Compared with other training projects, our SDP focuses on helping schools obtain the ability to self-develop, including understanding the methods of self-evaluation, identifying and analysing the problems in schools, effective use of participative management, making a plan to solve relevant problems, improving the school’s leadership and management ability, making good use of all kinds of in-school and out-of-school resources to achieve the self-development of the school.

Combining overseas and domestic experience: Utilising the experience we have in the UK, we can organise UK study visits for project schools and relevant government officers, which will help them understand how to achieve self-development through a school development plan.

Relevant News
International Conference on School Leadership and Management Innovation was held this October
An international conference was held in Beijing from October 16th to 17th, 2008, with the purpose of studying and discussing the theory of school leadership and management innovation, sharing the experience of national education projects in terms of school leadership and management innovation, exploring the developing trends in school leadership and management innovation both national and international, as well as sharing the practice of a 3-year SDP Project in Beijing’s Haidian District.
This conference was sponsored by Haidian Education Committee and co-organised by Haidian Institute of Education Research and Cambridge Education.
