School Development Planning Project with Beijing Haidian District (Haidian SDP)

This is a project cooperated between Haidian Education Committee, Cambridge Education and Beijing Institute of Teaching and Research. It was started in January of 2005, with the purpose to improve the international level of primary and secondary schools in Haidian District, helping to realize the target of education balance development of Haidian. The project chose 5 middle schools and 5 primary schools in Haidian District (later extended to 6 middle schools and 6 primary schools) as the project schools, and then Cambridge Education and Beijing Institute of Teaching and Research organized a consultant group with international and domestic consultants to provide training and technical support to all the project schools.

During this project, all the project schools made their own school developing plan on the basis of the self-evaluation and carried out in their school, achieved great success. The project improved the leadership of project schools and gave them the ability of self developing. One of the project results, book “Building up school leadership” was adopted in the “Haidian Education Innovation series”. Mr. Zhang Tiedao, the vice president of Beijing Institute of Teaching and Research, wrote the introduction of this book.

Cambridge Education Bureau introduced the function of UK Education Administration Dept to Haidian visiting group

During this project, the headteaches of project schools had a three-week UK Study visit in Cambridge, which opened their vision and gave them the real feeling of what SDP is. The training in UK involves 18 units, including all aspects about the education of UK. All the headteaches wrote the relevant studying notes, which was edited in the dissertation book “Memorable 21 days—— Haidian Education Committee UK study visit Report”.

Currently, the fist period of the project was finished. And the second period will begin in the near future. Cambridge Education and Haidian Education Committee will hold an international conference to sum up the successfully experience concerning this project in this October’s Haidian Education Festival.
